Become a Volunteer
Volunteers Provide:
- Companionship
- Caregiver relief
- A warm smile
- A tender touch
- A listening ear
- Friendship
- Special talents such as music or aromatherapy
- OR Assistance with administrative support such as mailing bereavement guides, and fundraising material
The majority of our hospice patients reside in Chico, Oroville, and surrounding areas, but volunteers are needed in all areas of Butte, Glenn, and Tehama counties.
Volunteering for hospice isn’t as easy as walking in and helping, as it is for many non-profit organizations. We owe it to our hospice patients and families that our volunteers are properly trained, and that a criminal background check has been performed. The process is well worth the initial time investment.
Volunteers can gain:
- A meaningful experience
- Valuable relationships
- Interpersonal & intercultural interaction skills
- Sensitivity skills
- Exposure to different career options
- Clerical skills
Qualifications:
Emotional maturity, sensitivity, listening skills, successful incorporation of losses in own life, and ability to accept people as they are.
Time Commitment:
One year, approximately 2 hours per week with patients and families. Quarterly meetings are scheduled for all volunteers for the purpose of discussing patient care issues, in-service training, and volunteer recognition. Volunteer application available online.
